We were founded in 1903 as the Germania Club and in a short time there were over 1000 members. A large facility was designed by famed architect Henry John Klutho and erected on Riverside Avenue (next door to the present day YMCA) and a country "picnic ground" was purchased on the Ortega River. The club lost popularity during World War I and the name was changed to the Metropolitan Club. After WW II, the name was changed to the German-American Club. In the late 1920's the present facility was erected for the new "suburban" membership. We have made some recent improvements to our facility with the renovation of the "Smoke Haus", additions of walks, a new dock and gazebo.
